The Problem
Smart Sparrow began a project to build an entirely new platform to from the ground up to serve as the most powerful tool for educators to create online learning experiences. The old platform was built in Flash, and there were a number of user experience problems to solve in the process of moving the platform to Javascript. The primary goals for the project were reducing barriers to collaboration, and making the platform both easier for new users, but with plenty of room to scale for advanced users.
The Work
UI/UX Work: Guiding this transformative project at Smart Sparrow, I took the lead in the UI/UX phase, aiming to understand the challenges and desired outcomes comprehensively. Through collaborative efforts with the team, I conducted thorough UI/UX assessments to identify limitations in the Flash-based platform. User feedback sessions and extensive research informed the development of a roadmap to enhance the overall user experience. The wireframing and prototyping process involved translating these insights into intuitive design solutions, with iterative concepts designed to address specific issues and align with overarching goals.
Design and Development: Leading both the design and development aspects, I worked on creating a modern, user-friendly platform using Javascript. The design phase focused on aligning design choices not only with aesthetic preferences but also with functional effectiveness. The development process included establishing a robust backend infrastructure and an intuitive frontend interface. Adopting an agile approach, I facilitated continuous feedback loops and adjustments based on user testing, ensuring that the new platform not only addressed existing problems but also accommodated future scalability and advanced functionalities.
This multifaceted role aimed to seamlessly bridge the gap between design and development, resulting in a powerful and scalable tool for educators at Smart Sparrow. The project culminated in a new platform that not only overcame the challenges posed by the Flash-based system but also provided an enhanced and effective tool for crafting online learning experiences.
